Children & Youth Ministries

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.” I Timothy 4:12

The Children & Youth Ministries Team provides a variety of fun programming in a safe, loving environment that develops the spiritual well-being of all God’s children. For questions, please contact our Children & Youth Ministries Team Leader.

Parents’ Night Out

Parents’ Night Out is offered to the families of Aldersgate 4 to 5 times a year on Saturday nights from 5:30- 8:00.  With no charge to families, PNO provides a safe and nurturing environment for children birth to 5th grade, while parents, grandparents, or guardians enjoy an evening out. It offers children the opportunity to deepen relationships with their church friends while playing outside on our new playground, enjoying crafts, games, movies, and snacks. (Parents are asked to feed their children before arriving.) Children are supervised at all times by workers who have been trained in Safe Sanctuary. Check our current newsletter for upcoming Parents’ Night Out events and information to register.

Easter Egg Hunt

Each spring, traditionally the weekend before Easter, Aldersgate hosts a community-wide Easter Egg Hunt. Eggs and candy are hidden all over our campus and Dr. Barry Scott puts an interesting twist on the traditional Egg Hunt by hiding special items related to the Easter story. Don’t miss this great annual event!

Moments with the Children

During each Sunday’s worship service, Bro. Barry invites all children to the front of the church for a special time of fun and learning. As an experienced storyteller, balloonist, and magician, Bro. Barry always has an exciting way to share each week’s lesson with the children of Aldersgate.

Children’s Church

After the “Moments with the Children” during each Sunday’s worship service, children are invited to attend Children’s Church. Children’s Director, Skylyn Lytle, teaches Children’s Choir during the first half of Children’s Church. A team of volunteers rotates teaching lessons, followed by a craft and snack. Children will return to the sanctuary prior to the end of the worship service.

Aldersgate provides a nursery for children newborn to 3 years old. The two nursery rooms, located just down the hall from the Sanctuary, are newborn to 1 year old and 1 year old to 3 year old. Nursery is available during all Sunday morning activities and services and Aldersgate does its best to provide child care for any activities at the church, including Bible studies, special music events and more. If you ever have the need for child care in order to attend an Aldersgate event, please contact our Office.

Safe Sanctuaries Policy

Aldersgate United Methodist Church is a Safe Sanctuary church. As a Christian community of faith and a United Methodist congregation, we pledge to conduct the ministry of the Gospel in ways that assure the safety and spiritual growth of all of our children and youth, as well as all of the workers with children and youth. Our purpose for establishing this Child/Youth Abuse Prevention Policy and Procedures is to demonstrate our absolute and unwavering commitment to the physical safety and spiritual growth of all of our children and youth.

Sunday School Classes

The Children & Youth Ministries Team is also responsible for the oversight of the Children & Youth Sunday School classes. Sunday School classes meet at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings.
