Mark your calendars!!! Aldersgate’s annual Stew and Bake Sale will be here before you know it! It will be held on Saturday, November 17th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Stew Sale is a church-wide event, and we need several volunteers to help with preparation (preparing the chicken, peeling potatoes, stirring the stew, etc.) and also on the day of the stew sale (cashiers, stew carriers, dining room waitresses, cleanup crew, etc.). Sign up sheets will soon be posted on the bulletin board in the hallway near the pastor’s office. All volunteers are appreciated!
Lunch will be served from 11:00 a.m. — 1:00 p.m. It includes a bowl of stew, cornbread, crackers and coffee or tea. The cost is $4.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. Carry-out stew will be available for pickup around 10:00 a.m. at a cost of $5.00 a quart or $20.00 a gallon (containers will be provided).
There will also be a bake sale and cookie room. Ladies, get out all your recipes for those delicious cakes, cookies, pies and other baked goods and begin baking. All donations of baked goods and cookies are appreciated.

What a privilege our church will have during our upcoming 2018 Stewardship campaign. Your planning team is putting together this year’s program to focus on celebration, dreams and commitment of our time, talent and financial resources to God’s service During this time, be prepared to be challenged to grow in your personal stewardship so that we may move from “maintenance” of Aldersgate’s programming and ministry to higher levels of outreach, service, and giving.
Our next stewardship focused Sunday is planned for November 11th leading up to commitment Sunday on November 18th. During this period, you will receive materials to set forth the need for our congregation to expand our personal giving and time commitment to ministry.
Our Stewardship Team requests you begin thoughtful preparation and prayer in consideration of your role in the start of Aldersgate’s next 150 years in honoring our Lord.

It’s time once again to collect toys for the Reelfoot Rural Ministries Christmas Toy Store. We’ll be collecting new toys during the month of November to deliver to Reelfoot for their annual toy store. Parents, after meeting the guidelines set by RRM, are able to shop the store to select toys for their children for Christmas. The goal is to help 650 families have a merrier Christmas and, through the toy store, let them know that we care.
Please consider bring one or more toys to the church this month. You are asked to leave price tags and/or bar codes on the toys when you bring them. The Fincher’s Quartet, is coming to Aldersgate on Sunday evening, November 25th, at 6:00 p.m. Mark your calendars and plan to join us in the sanctuary for some great gospel music. In November, the date for Wednesday Night Fellowship has been changed to the 4th Wednesday of the month. Butch Rose will speak on his military service on Wednesday, November 28th, at 5:45 p.m. in the fellowship hall. This will commemorate Veteran’s Day as we reflect on his and other soldier’s work and sacrifices for our country. Butch will have a couple of visual presentations plus he will speak about his time in Vietnam.
The menu for the evening will be cheesy chicken and rice, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, and dessert. If you plan to join us, please sign up at the bulletin board in the hallway near the pastor’s office, or you may also call or email the church office for your reservation. The cost for the meal is $7.00 and children 6 years old and younger eat free.

Parent’s Night Out began September 29th. The focus for our upcoming Saturday Parent’s Night Out will be the 150 year celebration and anniversary of Hays Avenue/Aldersgate Church. Lessons and activities will center around the history of our church, especially our name, the stained glass windows/meaning of the symbols and our pipe organ.
Tentative dates are:
- December 1, 2018 — “Cause for Celebration”
- January 26, 2019 — “The New is Here!”
Parents Night Out is for children infant — 5th grade from 5:30 — 8:00 p.m. Reservations must be made by contacting Teresa Frommel (text or call 571-8070) Future dates will be posted after the new year.

Daytime Fellowship will not meet during the month of November. Join the group at noon on Wednesday, December 5th, for a potluck lunch and fellowship. For this month only, we have changed the date to the first Wednesday of the month. We will be taking up a special offering for UMCOR for disaster relief. Please invite a friend to join you for this monthly event. It is open to all ages. For more information, check back on the website or contact the church office.

Come join the United Methodist Men for some good food and fellowship on the second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. The next meeting will be on December 10th.

On Thursday, December 27, we need volunteers to help prepare food and transport it to RIFA by 5:15 p.m. and also volunteers to help serve and clean up from 5:00 — 7:00 p.m. If you can help out, please sign up at the bulletin board in the hallway near the pastor’s office. Many in our congregation have joined in serving RIFA Meals to those in our community in need of a hot meal. Have you participated yet? Maybe you are still not sure what you can do or how to volunteer, so here are some ways you can help:
-Bring money to the communion rail each communion Sunday. This offering is designated for the soup kitchen meals. It costs around $185 each month to provide the food. If each of us gave just a couple of dollars each month, we could fund this ministry.
-Give an extra offering designated specifically for this ministry. Just mark your envelope for the soup kitchen.
-Help prepare food at the church to be delivered to the soup kitchen. (4:00 – 5:00 on 4th Thursday) Sign up list is on the bulletin board.
-Serve the prepared meals to those who come to the soup kitchen. (5:00 – 7:00 on 4th Thursday at RIFA soup kitchen on Airways Blvd.) Sign up list is on the bulletin board.
-Make or provide cookies or brownies for desserts for the meal. This would save on the cost of the meal. (240 cookies needed each month on 4th Thursday)
-Offer a short devotion before the meal at the soup kitchen on the 4th Thursday evening.
-Above all, pray for those who receive the meals and for our congregation as we serve them.
